In early 1995, a group of Malaysian photographers realize there was no photographic organization which could represent Malaysia photographic art in the international photography arena. This group of photographers from various states in Malaysia decided to establish a non-profit organization which represents photography societies and clubs in Malaysia.
Indeed, SPM is providing the endless opportunities for the Malaysia photographers meeting regularly during its activities, and to gain exposure in the international photography arena.
Since its establishment, Society of Photographers – MALAYSIA (SPM) had successfully organized number of national and international photographic competitions, and International Salons which were endorsed by PSA, FIAP and RPS.
The SPM Management Council has continuously organized many photographic related activities to develop and strengthen photographic art in Malaysia. One of the many activities, is to organize and support photographic competitions. The creation of this platform has provided opportunities to photo enthusiasts and encouraging them to participate. This is an avenue for them to gain exposures and raising their photographic standard, both locally and internationally.
SPM has made regular visits and networking with foreign photographic organizations as to establish the continuous rapport with these establishments. In fact, some of the renowned and top-notch international photographers were invited as speakers to conduct seminars, workshops and exhibitions which were organized by SPM.
